I would recommend posting a new question in order to better help with your situation. This article helped when I accidently removed a VM from inventory, instead of deleting it. Posting it here because I have not seen this mentioned on the web but this fixed the issue of add to inventory was grayed out for me.

And that was to login via the shell and run voma for the entire device and that found issues that needed to be fixed in the vmware files. Make sure you reboot after running it in fix mode.
