In addition to simplifying migration for legacy IPX LANs, this provides a measure of security, as the use of the IPX protocol on the internal network provides a natural barrier against intruders, should the firewall be compromised. I have multiple old games that are not available on Steam or GOG such as Diablo 1 and Red Alert 2 that I would like to be able to play multiplayer on my windows 10 machine on my network i.

KVM switches for two systems are really cheap far less than the cost of multiple monitors. Sometimes the old stuff just keeps on going like the Eveready Bunny and it's hard to get rid of it when you should. If you need help disabling Internet on the XP systems only while allowing them to function perfectly otherwise I'm sure the community will help depending on how things are set up on your network as there are dozens of ways to accomplish this.

I have sketched out a couple of possibilities as far as disabling the XPs from Internet access, but hopefully still allowing everything else to function normally. I'm going to test this weekend. I might need to buy another router or hub, but I want to make sure it works first. If I have trouble I'll be back. I used to have quite a few Netware 5. Those got replaced with 6. That would prevent the VM from accessing the Internet and only leave the Netware system available to it.

I'm not sure if you've used XP Mode before, but it is pretty slick. Once you have the VM configured on a computer, you can present the application your users need as though it is a normal Windows 7 app. You can put shortcuts on the desktop or start menu and the user sees only the application and not the VM window when they use those icons.

Not sure I could do it alone with my level of expertise. But I could definitely research it. I did try cloning the server once with not very good results. The motherboard on the server was quite old. I located another on eBay, but ended up using it to save my server when the original motherboard died. Been looking for the same motherboard since.

It's something I will attempt again at some future date. I have not used XP Mode yet, but I feel like this is something that I could handle fairly comfortably with my level of technical expertise.

I feel like I have a number of options to try now.
